You Learn Something New Every Day

Jan 21, 2010
you-learn-something-new-every-day

Today out of pure curiosity, I texted Robby to ask him if guys talk about sex the way girls talk about sex. To my complete surprise, he said no, and that it was almost exclusively a girl thing. Anyone else happen to find this strange? When I probed him further to ask why that was, he said he wasn’t sure but believed that perhaps it had to do with the whole homophobic line that guys are so terrified to cross. He said if they discussed sex in the manner that girls do, then it would imply that they would be picturing each other having sex and well, for a guy you see the problem.

Funnily enough though, when I talk sex with my girlfriends, I don’t picture what they’re doing, rather I’m intrigued by what I could possibly try myself. When we talk positions or orgasms, it’s more of a huh, I should try that out, or a hmm, I wonder if I could achieve that type of reaction and not the, visual that Robby seems to say is the case for men. While, I understand where he is coming from, it all seems a bit silly to me, though in some regards, I feel kind of relieved, because honestly it would be strange to feel as if whenever the guys are over, rather then just hanging out and having fun, they’re instead remembering what Robby could have possibly told them about the night before last, etc– well, you get the picture, lol.

I guess in some ways that’s not fair to Robby, because I do gab with my girls about the things we do, but I don’t think they think about those things whenever we have them over to hang out. For girls, I think it’s purely science and more of a reconnaissance chat, as opposed to the OMG visual, that seem to be the problem for men. I mean, how cool would it be if a man could go to his guy friend and say “Hey, tried this out with my girl last night and she LOVED it, maybe you should give it a shot and see how it goes?” Could you imagine the possibilities? Sadly, though I don’t think that’s a hope worth holding on to, because despite the fact that guys say we’re too difficult to understand, it’s really the man’s brain that makes me scratch my head like a chimp and say “huh”?

Well I think to an extent guys do talk about it. How else did Anal and rimjobs get around? Doubtful girls asked for it to be done, more so a guy wanted to try something new.

Because lets face it, not many women are upfront about what they want when it comes to sex.

I think guys do talk about it. I don’t think Robby lied… I think that they just don’t talk about it in the same way. We will probably never understand how they talk about it. For us it’s a lot of details usually and for them it’s usually just a one sentence thing noting if they got some last night. That’s just my experience haha.

@Che: And see that’s the thing, I don’t believe that woman aren’t upfront about what they want when it comes to sex, because all the woman I know in real life, who enjoy sex are pretty damn up front about it, lol. Also where did you get that error because I’m not seeing it.

@Caity: See to me that’s not talking about it. It’s more just a mention in passing. Talking about it is to have a conversation that is more than a few seconds on several topics regarding sex, but hey, that’s just me. LMFAO.

I’m not saying that all women are shy just most of them. I know a lot of people that have looked at me in shock when I tell them the things that I’ve done with Richard and suggested with him, simply because they’re not the type to say anything.

As for the error I get it when I’m typing my comments. I think its because I don’t have a last post since I don’t have a website listed.

I don’t think women will ever truly understand how a guy’s mind works.

Likewise, I think men are just as screwed when it comes to trying to fathom our inner workings as well. :)

Like Caity mentioned, guys do talk about sex, but just not in the in-depth manner that women are more prone to. I’ve known for a while the, I guess the word here is “logic”, behind it. I just can’t fathom it. I think guys seriously over-think the whole “that’s gay” hangup that they have. Seriously.

@Joana: As I stated on Caity’s comment, I don’t consider that talking about it. I asked Robby about it and he agrees that yes that is generally what they do, but he also doesn’t consider that as talking. It’s more just a “hey what’s up?” type of thing as opposed to an actual conversation that he would have with his buddies about topics like guns or motorcycles. :)
