The Ups and Downs of Owning a Home

Oct 6, 2010
the-ups-and-downs-of-owning-a-home

Anyone who owns a home can tell you it has both it’s upsides and downsides. The upside is having the ability to make modification without needed approval. For instance painting, adding shelves, etc. The downsides is having to repair things you normally wouldn’t have to worry about. For instance, we just recently discovered that our garbage disposal is having issues so tomorrow I get to call the manufacturer and figure out if the system is still warrantied since we both the house last year but the system was purchased in 2008. I have a feeling it won’t be and that will be yet another item on our list to have to fix. Fun right? No not really.

Another plus side is not having to worry about paying costly pet deposits or pet rent. It really makes things easier for it. But along with that comes the downside of having to worry about proper home ventilation, which could lead to very HIGH electricity bills. That is not fun. So yes, while it’s true only a home is great, at the some time it has negatives as well. Now would I ever consider going back to renting after owning my own home, even with all of the additional cost? Not a chance in hell.
