Better to Be Prepared Than Sorry!

Oct 10, 2011
better-to-be-prepared-than-sorry

Growing up, I never had the chance to experience the type of parents who taught me about how the world works. More specifically, I didn’t have parents who explained to me the importance of good credit or even what a credit score is. In fact, I knew nothing about credit really until I turned 18 and I heard the older folks where I worked toss the phrase around.

It’s really quite disheartening to think I was at such a disadvantage because my parents just didn’t bother to think perhaps we should talk to our kids about how important credit really is.

I made a lot of mistakes when I was younger concerning my credit. I ignored the collectors calling and just thought that if I didn’t admit to the problem it didn’t exist. I know better now.

I try and make a point to pull my credit score by using free credit score programs offered by several different organizations on a yearly basis. I review my report to ensure its accurate and dispute what I know is not. And when I have kids, I swear that I will teach them the importance of credit so they can start off at and advantage. Credit is important; I just wish I knew then what I do now.
