New Grill in Our Future?

Mar 10, 2012
new-grill-in-our-future

Now that we have our house back and have a fairly decent income, we’ve been discussing renovation. We’re going to start by turning one of the rooms into a long awaited craft room. I already have some ideas of what I’d like, it’s just a matter of measuring the bedroom and then looking at laminate flooring and beadboard. I’m fairly excited and cannot wait. Home will actually feel like home.

In addition, we’re contemplating what we’re going to do about the backyard. I’ll be the first to admit that right now it’s a hot mess. I know for sure that we are going to pull the rock out and we already got an estimate on what it will cost which isn’t too bad. Afterwards we want to replace the grill that we’ve had for probably over 5 years now, lol, so we’re looking at some outdoor grills at GrillsDirect.com to see what is available and what we’d actually be interested. After that we’ll be tackling the yard as a whole. Either way I can’t wait until we start!

You Work Where You Can

Feb 25, 2012
you-work-where-you-can

Those who know me know that I didn’t have the best childhood and my relationship with my parents isn’t all that great. I left the house when I was 18 because I recognized staying would have been detrimental to my health but despite all that, I have to say I am so grateful for all the values my parents instilled in me. They taught me right from wrong, when to stand up and when to walk away, and the importance of hard work.

I learned from my mother and father that you take the jobs that are given to you even if it’s something you think is beneath you like hanging address signs. It’s work and you work where you can.

Now a days I am aghast at how many people believe they’re entitled to specific jobs and pay because they have a college degree. Sorry but that piece of paper doesn’t mean anything. You need the experience to back it and if that means taking a crap internship, you do it. Sadly though, many people don’t have these values and as a result, they toss away opportunities because they think they deserve better. I wish they’re parents had taught them what I learned– they’d be better off for it.

Things Change

things-change

Last year my mother-in-law made the decision to retire early because they were offering her better retirement pay than if she stayed longer and also to assist her sister in taking care of her mother who has been deteriorating slowly over the past few years. While I understood why she was doing it, I also knew that it was something that would be very taxing on her because she’s a busy body and has NEVER been content with just being cooped up in the house all day. Despite that, she wanted to be there for her mother, for her sister and I totally understand and respect that.

So imagine my surprise when she told me that her sister had applied for a job in Wisconsin and that they were considering two options for her mother:

  1. Putting her in Housing for seniors or to put it bluntly a nursing home.
  2. Moving her to San Diego where my mother-in-law would renovate the downstairs and hire someone to help her care for her.

I feel as if she someone got jipped because one of the reasons she retired was to help her sister and now turns out, not even a year later things are changing. Either way they decide I hope she’s happy and doesn’t have any regrets. I guess we’ll have to see.

G-d Bless Retail Workers

Feb 25, 2012
g-d-bless-retail-workers

I’ve worked in retail before and I can tell you for me it was one of the most excruciating experiences so I have to commend those with the capacity to do it. Especially during the holidays when people tend to turn into monsters who don’t care about feelings or that the person they’re screaming out is just trying to do their job. I definitely understand the allure of forever 21 jobs, especially when you’re promised a hefty discount but it does come with a price and to be honest, that’s just not one I’m willing to pay.

So G-d bless our retail workers; it’s good to know there are some people out there who are willing to do what some won’t.

I’m Not A Jewelry Kind of Girl

Feb 11, 2012
im-not-a-jewelry-kind-of-girl

Ever since I can remember I have NEVER been into jewelry. Robby will be the first person to say this given that when he proposed I had no interest in an engagement ring but gave in after he asked me to get one. To this day I still have the same mentality. I just don’t see the point.

I don’t wear rings or things like a stainless steel necklace and I have no interest in shopping for jewelry either. Maybe once in a blue moon I’ll accessorize because whatever I’m wearing calls for it but for the most part, I’m good without the additional pieces. I guess I’m just weird. :P
