Holiday Wishes & the Obligatory What I Got Blog

Dec 27, 2010
holiday-wishes-the-obligatory-what-i-got-blog

I won’t make the assumption that those reading my blog automatically celebrate Christmas so instead of saying “Merry Christmas”, I wish all of you a great holiday season. I personally do not celebrate Christmas so I do get a little peeved when people automatically assume I do1. The world is a melting pot so far be it from me to automatically assume you celebrate a particular holiday when that may not be the case. So as a show of respect, I say to you all happy holidays and you can fill in the “Holidays” part with whatever it is you celebrate. :)

In any event we ended up celebrating Solstice on the 22nd because Kristen left for San Diego on the 23rd to spend the holidays with her family. I didn’t really mind because I don’t celebrate Christmas so it wasn’t like OMG, we’re opening presents on the 22nd instead of the 25th. In fact it actually worked out well for me because I was able to take down the tree and clean up the night of the 25th and now that’s one less chore that I’m stuck doing. I’m all about being proactive this year instead of waiting until March2 to take the tree down.

In any event, the presents I received this year were actually the same types of presents I received last year but probably ten times worse. This time of year is very dangerous for someone like me– I tend to go a little over board with both the giving and receiving, but honestly at the end of the day it all boils down to the look of surprise on everyone’s face after they open the gifts I’ve given them. To me that’s what makes it worth it and no amount of money spent is ridiculous in my eyes.

Solstice 2010 Gifts
These aren’t all of the DVDs/Blu-Rays. Some of the gifts trickled in after
the holiday and I was just too lazy to take another picture.

My gifts this year were:

  • Barnes & Noble 3G/WiFi Nook
  • $100 for Grammy
  • Sword of Truth Books 4-9
  • 24 S1-S7
  • Smallville S8-S9
  • Private Practice S1-S2
  • Army Wives S2-S3
  • Weeds S1-S5 on Blu-Ray (replaced my DVDs)
  • True Blood S1 (replaced my DVDs)
  • Legend of the Seeker Series (ended up with two copies of S1 because one was a gift– sorry Kristen!)
  • Grey’s Anatomy S5-S6
  • Heroes S3-S4
  • Vampire Diaries S1
  • Supernatural S5
  • Glee S1
  • House S6
  • Castle S1-S2
  • Dollhouse S2
  • Modern Family S1
  • Bones S5
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine Blu-Ray
  • I Love Lucy Series
  • Prince of Persia Blu-Ray
  • Legion Blu-Ray
  • The Invention of Lying
  • 2TB Hard Drive
  • Pearl necklace

I believe that’s it. We may tack on Sims 3: Late Night to that if I can find it for a price I’m willing to pay… oh and then there’s the possible hair cut, style, and color I’m contemplating as well. But yes, as you can see this time of the year is very dangerous for someone such as myself when there are some awesomely good deal on DVDs both movies and TV shows. I try and reign myself in but I seem to always fail at that game. Despite that I’m happy with what I got and you know what I don’t even really count the Blu-Ray replacements of the DVDs I owned.. though considering I bought them twice, I probably should, huh? :P

1. For those who are wondering I celebrate Solstice.
2. It’s been known to happen.

Holiday Wishlist

Dec 7, 2010
holiday-wishlist

I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile, but with my work schedule coupled with school work and ultimately my pure laziness1, I just couldn’t find the time to and I figured that I should probably jump on the bandwagon given that there’s only 18 days until Christmas– though I don’t really expect anyone will get me anything but hey! I can hope right? In any event, I should probably stop blabbing and move on to the purpose of this blog.

Step one
Make a post to your blog, tumblr, facebook, myspace, what have you. The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really want and that people can see the post. If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just an email address at which you can be contacted by potential wish-grantors.
Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your post, so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step two
Surf around your friends list/blogroll/RSS feeds (or friends friends, or just random places ) to see who has posted their list. If you have a list be sure to leave it in my comments section so I can view your wishes! If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Sometimes someone’s trash is another’s treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you won’t use–or even know where you could get someone’s dream purebred Basset Hound for free–do it.

Holiday Wishlist
While I don’t expect anyone to get me anything off my list, should you decide that you do want to get me something please shoot me an e-mail letting me know. :)

  • As the avatar states *points to the upper left hand corner of this post* Eric Northman would be nice– though to make things easier on you, I’ll settle for Alexander Skarsgard.
  • Any of the seasons of “The Nanny“.
  • Gift cards to Barnes & Noble so I can load up my Nook when I finally open it.
  • Subscription to Aion.
  • The second season of Legend of the Seeker.
  • Gift cards to Amazon because I have an unhealthy obsession with DVDs.
  • Gift cards to Best Buy (see above).
  • Donations to ange.beckman[at]gmail.com– doesn’t matter if it’s a dollar or what not. Any bit helps!
  • iPod Touch
  • A DVD media storage stand that can hold at least 1,000 DVDs.

Other Wishlists

1. Yes, I fully admit it!

It’s Starting To Feel A Lot Like Solstice

Dec 4, 2010
its-starting-to-feel-a-lot-like-solstice

I didn’t get the chance to blog about this because I’ve been busy with work and school but we put the tree up! I actually put it up the day after Thanksgiving as I figured it was in my best interest to be proactive about it instead of waiting until last minute and then not wanting to do it– and I am pleased with the results. Though honestly we actually had to take it down and put it back up again because it crooked and unstable but the final result is fab! I love my tree, I love the colors we settled on and just the overall feel of it. It’s funny because you’d think we’d spent so much money on decorations and such but we didn’t. We ALWAYS take advantage of the post-Christmas sales when it comes to decorations and wrapping paper, bows, etc so everything is very, very costly for us. Definitely recommend it to those who want to increase the amount of decorations they have and not to spend a ton on wrapping paper, bows, etc.

Anyway, I am pretty much finished with my Solstice shopping. I have one more present to get Robby which I will get him on Tuesday and then after that it’s just a waiting game for all the other gifts I got to come in. I still have to send a gift out to a close friend of mine and I’ll probably have Robby stop by the post office to do that on Monday or sometime next week and I also have to get a gift for my little sister, but I already know what it’s gonna be so I’m not too worried about that. I’m pretty ecstatic about everything that I got and everything I got others. It’s just a nice feeling to be able to do something for someone else. I guess I just like the feeling of gratitude I get when I give something to someone who doesn’t expect it. It’s great.

On another note I plan to attempt Gingerbread cookies this year again. Last year didn’t go so well and I think it’s because the recipe I had sucked. The recipe I’m using this year I pulled for FoodNetwork.com so I’m hoping that yields better results. If you have your own gingerbreakd cookie recipe that works well for you, please share it with me! I want to be able to successfully make gingerbread cookies without hiccups this year, wish me luck!

Anyway without further ado… here is our tree!

I Love This Time of Year!

Nov 24, 2010
i-love-this-time-of-year

Anyone and everyone who knows me knows that I love this time of the year. First there’s the feast. And I mean feast. I love me some turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing and then to top it off there are the sales. Yes, that’s right the sales. I mean honestly what more could a geek ask for? I seriously always wake up Thanksgiving day full of joy and excitement because of all the exciting Black Friday deals waiting for me.

Though if I’m honest, I tend to already have a list planned out of what I want to get and where so I’m prepared. What’s even more awesome about this time of the year is that now with the technology age booming full force, there are some places where I don’t even have to leave the comfort of my own home to indulge in the deals! In all honesty that’s probably dangerous for someone like me but you know what I don’t care. I love this time of year. I love the food, the deals, and just the over feel of everyone gearing up for the next few months of holiday cheer.

It’s hard to be angry or sad when everyone else is just so happy. I know I can’t!

So There Goes My Thanksgiving

Aug 15, 2010
so-there-goes-my-thanksgiving

For those of you who are members on Ecstasy, you’re fully aware of what this post will entail. However, for those who aren’t, let’s just put it like this– my ALL time favorite holiday has been ruined by news which is was only made worse by the fact that Robby and I will yet again be separated for several days. Yeah, I know it’s sad– but don’t cry for me minions, I’ll deal. ;)

Last week, Robby came home to tell me that he was once again driving across the country. Why you wonder? Because my sister-in-law decided to apply for a job in San Diego and is now moving back in with my mother-in-law. Now, I wouldn’t be bothered by this if the entire event had been discussed with me, but it wasn’t so I was infuriated. I still have yet to hear from her regarding kidnapping my husband for a few days to drive her across the country. Why am I bothered by this? Because not once did she think to include me in her planning. She did not contact me to say, “Hey, is it okay if your husband helps to drive me and my husband across the country?” It’s not like Robby is single. He has a family– albeit, it’s just me, but still he has a WIFE to consider, so when he told me what was going on, I was LIVID and actually if I’m honest, still am.

The reason it bothers me so much is a, it’s rude, and b she knows her brother. She knows he is crappy in the memory and planning department so what would have happened if I had something planned that I told him about but he forgot1? Is he than supposed to cancel because she decided to be a selfish bitch and not bother to check with me first? So, yes I am HIGHLY aggravated about the entire situation and not in the less bit happy.

Now I bet you’re all wondering where in the hell Thanksgiving fits into all this. Simple. Thanksgiving is MY holiday. It always has been. Since we’ve been out here, except last year2 my mother-in-law has come out every year to celebrate with us. However, now that my sister-in-law and her husband are moving back in with her that means they’ll be out here too. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my sister-in-law, BUT I can only stand her presence in VERY small doses. The last time she was out here I was ready to lose my mind and damn near on the verge of killing someone3. So in the span of a very short work my holiday has been ruined and oh yeah there’s the fact that she’s kidnapping my husband and I still have yet to hear from her. Bitch.

1. This happens frequently.
2. It was my sister-in-law’s wedding.
3. Namely her husband who at the time was still her fiance.
